African Fashion Week Montréal (AFWM) closed out the summer in spectacular fashion, returning for its 10th edition from August 28th to 31st, 2025. What began as a modest platform has grown into one of Montréal’s most vibrant cultural showcases, blending fashion, art, and community into a three-day celebration of African heritage and diasporic creativity.

This year’s edition unfolded at Hôtel Zéro 1, drawing together designers and artists from Montréal and beyond. Despite the occasional late start and the intimacy of the main venue, the atmosphere was charged with excitement and anticipation. If anything, the smaller setting amplified the energy, allowing guests to feel fully immersed in the artistry unfolding before them.
Over the following days, AFWM delivered an ambitious program: striking runway shows, networking events, bustling pop-up markets, thought-provoking panel discussions, and live performances that brought together music, dance, and fashion. Each moment carried the weight of cultural pride and innovation.
The runway was the centerpiece of the weekend, spotlighting an eclectic mix of designers from across the African diaspora. Collections ranged from modern reimaginings of traditional textiles to bold, avant-garde silhouettes, all reflecting the diversity of Black identity and style.

Each edition reminds Montréal that African creativity is not confined to one continent but exists vibrantly across the diaspora, adapting, transforming, and thriving.
Closing the summer with style, AFWM 2025 affirmed its role as a vital cultural event in Montréal’s calendar. While there is still room to grow in terms of venue size and organization, its unapologetic celebration of heritage and artistry remains undeniable. AFWM’s influence only promises to expand, cementing Montréal as a hub for African and diasporic fashion on the global stage.
