Dayglow, as the lone opener with frontman Sloan Struble, did a fantastic job warming up the damp crowd. He took the stage with such enthusiasm that the mood of the whole stadium was uplifted. Backed by bright visuals and a tight band, singing hits like “Hot Rod” and “Can I Call You Tonight?” He even joked with fans about spending the day riding roller coasters across the street all day and almost getting sick, saying, “It's a medical miracle I can perform tonight!” Earning roaring cheers from the nearly 30,000 fans in attendance. By the end of Dayglow’s ubeat set with drizzling rain, the audience was fully pumped for the main event.
At exactly 8:45 PM, the stadium lights went dark and an eruption of screams announced Twenty One Pilots’ arrival. Josh Dun introduces his skills with a drum preamble to “Overcompensate.” Moments later, Tyler Joseph runs on stage and leaps over his piano with a bang. As Josh’s thunderous drums hit hard and Tyler’s vocals rang out, the crowd was literally alight with wristbands provided by the tour. Without missing a beat, the duo tore into songs off their brand new 2025 album, Breach.
Despite the emphasis on new music, Twenty One Pilots made sure to weave in plenty of beloved classics the band is known for. One highlight was “We Don’t Believe What’s on TV” from their 2015 breakout album Blurryface. It began with a heartwarming visual, a pre-show video of fans (reocrded outside earlier that day) singing along to the song’s chorus on the big screens, and the entire stadium joined in a cappella before the band kicked in. This kind of audience interaction set the tone foe the night, you could tell the band truly cared for the audience they’ve fostered.
Halfway through the set, Tyler and Josh proved their flair for the dramatic by taking the show into the crowd. During the track, “Routines in the Night,” Tyler suddenly leapt off the stage and danced his way through fans with security in tow (which he fittingly shouted out the ability of the team). As the spotlights followed him, you could feel the wave of excitement follow with everyone in the stadium getting a glimpse of their favorite frontman. The B-Stage was the charred vintage car from their “Heavydirtysoul” music video. In true Twenty One Pilots fashion, the car promptly burst into flames as they launched into “Message Man.” Even far from the main stage, Josh’s drumming was loud and clear, with Tyler’s vocals reaching every corner of the venue. One thing was for sure, with about 2 other mini stages, Twenty One Pilots makes each seat in the venue worth it.
The Journey back to the main stage was just as exciting. As Tyler wrapped up a shortened rendition of “Chlorine” while mingling with fans on the return walk, Josh appeatred carrying a flaming torch, personifying the “Torchbearer” character from the band’s lore. The theatrical narrative of the Dema universe (a story spanning multiple albums) took center stage in the final act. Ominous chants and the instrumental “Torchbearer’s Theme” played as the main stage scenery transformed into the silhouette of a burning city. With a burst of pyrotechnics, the duo confronted this figurative city of Dema by ripping into “Jumpsuit.” It felt less like a rock concert and more like a full-scale final culmination of years of storytelling. Throughout it all, Tyler and Josh’s synergy was on full display: Tyler would race across the stage or climb atop the piano to belt out high notes, while Josh attacked his drum kit with ferocity.
As the first notes of a newer song called “Garbage” played, Tyler noticed how many people were already singing along. He paused to address the audience with genuine emotion, admitting that he once attended a concert where he didn’t know the band’s newest album and felt “forgotten” when the artist played all new songs. Saying “We never want to forget who we were, what you may have fallen in love with in the past, but to be able to release a new record and for it ot go #1 on Billboard.” With the loudest cheer of the night so far, Tyler continued, “I don’t like talking about that sort of stuff on stage, especially, but man, not just to anyone here but to anyone who's watching when you post it later, our whole fanbase, thank you so much for supporting us in that way… I'm getting misty.” Asking fans to sing the chorus with him to finish out the song. Riding that emotional high, the band then gave the crowd a special treat by performing “Tally” live for the very first time. The live debut had fans shrieking with excitement, proud to witness a little piece of Twenty One Pilots' history.
Before the encore, they continued a beloved tour tradition of inviting a young fan on stage to help sing “Ride.” This time, a kid named Elizabeth was walked up by Tyler from the crowd, and with his encouragement, she confidently belted out the final chorus to roaring cheers. Not to be outdone, Josh then took his own crowd interaction to the next level during an extended drum solo aptly titled “Drum Show.” Crew members passed a sturdy platform holding Josh’s drum kit into the pit, and fans literally held it up overhead as Josh climbed aboard. Under a storm of strobe lights, he pounded out an electrifying drum break while surfing atop the crowd.
After a brief exit, Tyler and Josh returned for a five-song encore that felt like a grand finale on its own. A hush fell as the big screens rolled footage for their latest music video, “City Walls,” which the band performed live in sync. The emotional weight of this song announced to conclude the decade-long narrative of their albums, had fans crying around us. Without pause, they went into “Stressed Out,” the Grammy-winning hit that turned the stadium into a giant karaoke session; thousands of voices belted every single word. Finally, as is tradition, the show concluded with “Trees.” This finale has become the stuff of legend for Twenty One Pilots shows, and Hershey got the full experience. Tyler and Josh both climbed onto separate crowd-supported platforms (each with a single floor tom drum) and led a spectacular percussive jam as confetti rained down in time with the music. The night sky above was suddenly filled with fireworks and red smoke, the band pounding their drums in sync with each colorful explosion. When the last note hit, Tyler stretched out his arms and delivered their trademark closing line: “We are Twenty One Pilots, and so are you.”
Twenty One Pilots managed to turn a huge outdoor venue into a celebration and an adventure through both new chapters and nostalgic favorites. By the end, fans were hugging, crying, and high-fiving strangers. This Hershey show proved that even ten years into their career, Twenty One Pilots are still expanding the boundaries of what a concert can be. They don’t just play songs; they create an atmosphere and story that sweep everyone up. With the duo announcing that they’re not sure about the future, stating, “it will be the first time in our career we won’t know when we will tour again,” everyone savored the night to its fullest extent.
